The Tazy’s appearance and build

The Tazy is a long-legged sighthound with lean, well-developed muscles. Its deep chest, tucked-up belly and elongated head give it a distinctive outline. The standard combines a light build with muscular strength and balanced proportions.

The body is slightly longer than the dog is tall at the withers. The distance from the ground to the elbow is a little more than half the height at the withers. The withers and sacrum are at roughly the same level. The muzzle is slightly shorter than the skull or equal to it in length.

The desired height at the withers is 63–70 cm for males and 58–65 cm for females. A variation of ±2 cm is permitted if the characteristic sighthound proportions and balance are maintained. The standard sets no weight range.

The head is fairly long and wedge-shaped. The long, hanging ears have rounded tips. Soft, wavy hair covers them and extends below their edges, forming the distinctive fringes known as “burka”.

The back is strong and well muscled. The croup is fairly long and sloping, the chest deep and long, and the belly well tucked up. Long, lean legs complete the dog’s athletic outline.

The tail is fine, set low and curved at the tip. A relaxed dog holds it down; in motion it may rise slightly above the back.

The body coat is short and lies close to the skin. Longer hair forms fringes on the ears and feathering behind the legs and on the tail. There is almost no undercoat in summer; in winter it may be well developed.
